Classic Caribbean Cocktails

It’s no secret that St. John is known for heavy pours (and we’re not talking about precipitation). Almost every Caribbean island has a specialty drink, but on St. John, it seems every bar has its own signature cocktail!

Here are just a few popular concoctions from some of our favorite mixologists in Cruz Bay:

Bushwacker

Sunny shares the Beach Bar’s Famous Bushwacker, a creamy adult chocolate shake.

• 1 oz Baileys
• 1 oz Frangelico
• 1 oz Kahlua
• 1 oz Dark Creme de Cacao
• 1 oz Vodka
• 1 oz Light Rum
• 1 oz Coco Lopez
• Prepare glass with chocolate syrup swirls
• Garnish with fresh nutmeg and cherry

Lime in da Coconut

After a sweltering day at the beach, nothing is more refreshing than a Lime in da Coconutprepared by Kim at Joe’s Rum Hut.

• 2 oz Cruzan Coconut Rum
• 2 oz Cruzan Light Rum
• 1 oz Coco Lopez
• Splash of Lime Juice
• Blend with Lime Wedge
• Garnished with lime

The R&R

The Tap Room brews all of St. John Brewers’ beer and homemade soda right behind the bar. Nick swears by the R&R (Rum and Root Beer) but be careful with this one as the root beer hides the alcohol!

• 1.5 oz Light Rum
• 6 oz St. John Brewers Root Beer

Painkiller

There are more Painkillers served in the Caribbean than bottles of water. Kristen at the Banana Deck has perfected this island favorite.

• 1.5 oz Pussers or Myers Dark Rum
• 1.5 oz Orange Juice
• 1 oz Pineapple Juice
• 1 oz Coco Lopez
• Garnish with fresh nutmeg and cherry

Liquid Sunburn

Anyone who has bellied up to the bar at the Gecko Gazebo at the Sun Dog Café knows Tyler and his clever beverage creations. The gecko garnish sets the tone for his Liquid Sunburn.

• 2 oz Cruzan Coconut Rum
• 2 oz Myers Dark Rum
• 2 oz Pineapple Juice
• Splash of Grenadine
• Garnish with orange slice, cherry and gecko figure

Electric Lemonade

Plain old lemonade will never be the same after you try Sophie’s Electric Lemonade at High Tide!

• 2 oz Absolute Citron
• Lemonade
• Splash of Blue Curacao
• Garnish with lemon

• 2 oz Blue Chair Bay Rum or your favorite flavored vodka
• St. John Brewer’s Green Flash Energy Drink
